Marta Kasha

Art Director, Dance Instructor

Marta has extensive experience in the field of dance. She completed her second higher education degree in Choreography. For over 20 years, she was a member of the Honored Folk Dance Ensemble "Mriya" in Lviv. Additionally, she worked for more than 8 years with the Honored Artist of Ukraine, Natalka Karpa, serving as the leader of her ensemble and choreographer. Marta is the founder of "Mriya" — a project that started in 2022 with a small group of children who began learning Ukrainian folk dances. What began as a small initiative has grown over time, with more and more children and adults joining to explore Ukrainian culture through dance. At "Mriya," children not only learn traditional movements but also develop endurance and expressiveness, conveying the beauty of our culture with every step.

Olga Stradomska

Dance Instructor Helper

Olga Troinikova is an active member of the ensemble and an assistant instructor. Her dance experience includes 9 years with the folk artistic ensemble "Kvity Ukrainy" and 1 year with the Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Ensemble studio. She arrived in Canada in 2022 and has been part of "Mriya" since 2023. Olga is a dedicated enthusiast of Ukrainian folk dances, costumes, culture, and traditions. With a deep love for preserving and sharing Ukraine’s rich heritage, Olga has devoted their life to studying and performing traditional Ukrainian art forms. Her passion shines through in every intricate dance step and every embroidered detail of the costumes she carefully curate. Olga believes that Ukrainian folk dances are more than just performances—they are a living, breathing celebration of the nation’s history, resilience, and spirit. For Olga, preserving Ukrainian folk art is not just a hobby—it’s a mission to honor the past, celebrate the present, and ensure that future generations never lose touch with their roots.

Alina Karalupova

Dance Instructor Helper

Alina is a dedicated ensemble member and serves as an assistant instructor for the Beginners and Junior 1 groups in New Westminster. She also leads the Junior 2 group. With 11 years of dance experience across various styles and cultures, Alina brings knowledge and passion to her teaching. She became the first member of the Adult group and has been part of Mriya since creation in 2023. Her love for dance was inspired by her first coach at the National Ukrainian Dance Group “Usmishka Sontsya,” where she trained for 7 years. Alina is eager to share her passion for Ukrainian culture and dance, hoping to inspire others to embrace and fall in love with them as she once has.

History
The "Mriya" dance group, founded by Marta Kasha in September 2022, began as a small project with just two groups of children. Marta, a passionate choreographer with a deep love for Ukrainian culture, envisioned creating something special that would inspire the younger generation through dance. From the very beginning, the team focused on showcasing the beauty and richness of Ukrainian culture, blending traditional regional dances with modern choreography and classical techniques to foster both technical skill and expressive movement. By September 2023, the collective experienced significant growth, with the addition of an adult group and expanded numbers across all age groups. This influx of dancers brought with it an increased level of choreography, and the team quickly became known for their more complex productions and impressive performances. Their hard work paid off, as the group participated in several local festivals, competitions, and began winning prizes, building the confidence and stage presence of its young performers.
History
The year 2024 marked another major milestone for the group, with the opening of a new location in Langley. This new venue allowed the team to expand further, adding three new groups for children ages 3 to 16. The expansion provided more children with the opportunity to learn Ukrainian dance in a welcoming and supportive environment. Meanwhile, the original locations in Burnaby and New Westminster continued to thrive, serving as hubs for dancers of all ages and abilities to explore both the technical and cultural aspects of Ukrainian dance.Marta's vision extended beyond just performance. She wanted to create a community where each dancer felt valued, supported, and part of a larger family. Through mutual encouragement and a shared love for dance, the "Mriya" team became more than just a dance group—it became a close-knit family, where every member played an important role in helping each other overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

January 19, 2025 marked a closure for Tropak Ukrainian Canadian Cultural and Educational Society. Formed 30 years ago this year, by the collaboration of two Vancouver Ukrainian Dance Ensembles, Luna and Cheremshyna, coming together and forming Tropak Dance Theatre. Under the artistic direction of Serguei Makarov, Tropak began it's journey as Vancouver's only semi-professional Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. 1996 Dancing the Dream, was it's first major performance that defined Tropak's professional quality and beauty in its years after, sharing Ukrainian dance and culture throughout western Canada and the United States. In 2001, Tropak's change in artistic directorship, led to a smaller, dedicated group of dancers being led under the direction of Tamara Pitts . Tropak continued to perform and share Ukrainian dance throughout the community including the Folk Festival in Las Vegas. Over the last few years it was Tamara Pitts’s and Terry Pitts’s commitment to keep Tropak's society alive in order to hopefully pass it onto a deserving group that would benefit from the years of rich history, costuming and contributions. Last year they met with a newly formed lower mainland group led by Marta Kasha . Her group MRIYA had brought together Ukrainian children who had left their home in Ukraine due to the war. The opportunity to pass along our society was absolutely a decision Tamara and Terry had been waiting for. This year forward TROPAK will live on under a new name MRIYA
